Spring 2017 Concert

David Recca, Music Director

St. Paul's on the Green
60 East Ave, Norwalk, Connecticut

Admission: $20 in advance; $25 at the door

Join us for this final concert of our 60th anniversary season as we explore the madrigal genre, Italian in origin, as it made its way to the shores of England late in the 16th century. Publications such as Musica Transalpina (1588) presented Italian originals translated to English, but also included many ‘tinkerings’ in notes, cadences, phrases and more. Hence, we have pairs of works such as Gastoldi’s “So ben mi ch’a bon tempo” and Morley’s “Now is the month of maying.” We will also explore other reinterpretations of the madrigal genre by 19th century English composer, R. L. Pearsall; mid-20th century American composer, R. L. Finney; and a newly commissioned work by composer and SCC member Margaret Stoop.
